Which technologies will dominate the world in the next five years?

From March 19 to 22, IBM will hold the IBM think 2018 conference, a global event that will bring together more than 40000 high-tech enthusiasts.

The theme of the conference will cover many hot topics such as artificial intelligence, data analysis, and the Internet of things, with the aim of "making the business world smarter"

In this event, IBM will give their prediction of the technology development in the next five years, and answer questions about innovation in new technologies and how these innovations will affect our lives.

These five technical predictions include crypto anchors, quantum computing, hacking, AI bias, and AI microscopes.

Related Topics:

1. Crypto-Anchors

All counterfeiters are shouting, and crypto anchors and blockchain can effectively fight against counterfeiting.

It is reported that the global economy will lose more than $600 billion annually due to economic fraud, and the tamper-proof digital fingerprint developed by IBM can be embedded in the product and linked with the blockchain to help prove its authenticity.

For example, crypto anchors can help prove that life-saving drugs are legal, not fake. The original malaria tablet can be coated with edible magnetic ink. Just scan the smartphone, and doctors or patients can immediately find that the tablet is safe and real.

In addition, crypto anchors can be combined with special optical devices and artificial intelligence algorithms to identify the structure and labels of the objects to verify if they really are as they say. For example, a 1982 Bordeaux bottle or an expensive metal.

IBM has designed the smallest computer in the world. It is understood that this computer is smaller than the salt grains we usually see. Its computer capacity can reach the performance of an X86 PC in 1990.

The first models of crypto anchors are likely to be launched in the next 18 months, and they will drive innovation and progress in various fields in the next five years.

2. Quantum Computing

Now quantum computing has been favored by researchers. Within five years, quantum computing will become the mainstream to help developers solve problems that were once thought to be unsolvable.

According to IBM, quantum computing will only become a prerequisite for all scientific and engineering computing.

University education will include the teaching of quantum computing. Quantum algorithms and classical algorithms will be taught at the same time.

These advances will promote the advent of the quantum era. Quantum computers will be able to simulate larger molecules, chemical reactions, and atomic combinations, which will contribute to the creation of new materials, the development of personalized medicines, and the discovery of more efficient and sustainable energy.

In the future, the quantum computer is no longer mysterious and will be accepted by the general public. In the next five years, the industry will realize the application of quantum computers and traditional computers to solve specific problems together.

3. Hackers

In the future, quantum computers will be able to quickly screen out all possible security probabilities and decrypt the most powerful encryption.

At present, IBM is developing a security method based on lattice cipher, which will hide the data in the complex algebra structure of the lattice.

In the field of mathematics, the lattice has a very difficult problem, which is very useful for cryptographers. It can be used to protect data, even in quantum computers.

In the field of mathematics, there are some difficult problems in the lattice. This difficulty is useful to cryptologists because it can be used to protect the information, even when hackers are involved in quantum computing.

Lattice-based cryptography is also the basis of completely homomorphic encryption, which can perform calculations on files without viewing sensitive data, thus preventing attacks.

Through credit reporting agencies can analyze and generate credit scores without decrypting personal data, and primary care doctors can share medical records and relevant data without disclosing the identity of patients.

At present, our security measures are seriously inadequate. In the next five years, we should make more breakthroughs in security.

4. AI Bias

Artificial intelligence bias will break out in the next five years. The AI system is only consistent with the data we input. If we enter data with certain racial, gender or ideological prejudices,

AI bias will be generated. Unfortunately, many AI systems are now being trained on these bad data. IBM researchers are considering how to ensure that human bias does not affect AI.

MIT IBM Watson AI Lab is studying the use of computational cognitive modeling to build machines that apply certain human values and principles in decision-making, one of the key principles being to avoid bias and discrimination.

IBM researchers have developed artificial intelligence algorithms that reduce the bias of training data by learning from previously considered discriminatory data.

IBM scientists are also developing an unbiased AI service that

  • a) compensates for data biases,
  • b) tracks biases in training sets, or
  • C) introduces biases. End users can determine the level of credibility and bias in each scenario.

In the next five years, reducing the deviation of the artificial intelligence system will be the key to human trust in artificial intelligence and only unbiased artificial intelligence can survive.

5. AI Microscope

By 2025, more than half of the world's population will live in areas with water scarcity, so scientists are trying to collect data to avoid this. But even specialized sensors that detect water and chemicals will not be able to predict unexpected situations.

The detection of plankton is an effective way to sense the health of water, but because of their microsize, it is difficult to study these organisms.

IBM researchers are building small, autonomous, artificial intelligence robotic microscopes that can monitor plankton, better understand their behavior, and how they respond to environmental changes, and predict water supply threats.

The microchip of the microscope can capture the shadow of plankton to produce a healthy digital sample without focusing.

In the next five years, these microscopes will be advanced enough to analyze and interpret data locally and in real time.
